Ragnar Spotlight Athlete: Amber Sadlier

We’re kicking this week off with a bang! Our next Athlete of April is one of our very own Race Directors, Amber Sadlier. She bleeds orange and always keeps things fun and fresh. We caught up with her and asked why she loves Ragnar so much!

What’s your favorite part about working for Ragnar?

Definitely the connections. I get to watch families, friends, colleagues, and strangers conquer something they couldn’t do alone. I see communities and volunteers working together to give runners an unforgettable experience, and I work alongside incredible humans who laugh, cry, sweat and work their way to the finish line. I love experiencing these connections!

What is your sport and how long have you been going at it?

Running is my sport! I’ve been at it for just over 11 years and can’t imagine life without that escape.

What’s your fondest memory of running?

Running Ragnar with my daughters. Every mother should have that experience!

Who do you look up to? Who are your role models?

My parents, who are really the coolest kids I know. My mother and dad taught me by example to be kind, to work hard, and to enjoy life’s journey.

Athletically speaking, did your younger self ever think you’d be doing what you’re doing now?

Never. I was such an awkward kid and never would have imagined the life I have now, surrounded by such a diverse community of runners.

How do you balance work your personal life and staying active?

This is something I really struggle with! I absolutely love what I do and I tend to work more than I should because I just enjoy it.  My children are grown, which gives me the flexibility to visit my grandkids, have adventures with my husband, and work in an industry that keeps me on my toes.

What’s your favorite Ragnar memory?

There are so many to choose from, but one of my favorite moments happened while directing the Great River Road Relay in Minnesota. I saw a van with “We’ll Pray For You” written on the window, and jokingly asked them to pray for me. They told me they were all part of a religious congregation running with their pastor and they asked me to join them as they held hands and prayed for the runners, staff, volunteers, and for me. For those few moments, I was a part of their team and it was an awesome feeling.

The classic question: Who is on your dream Ragnar team?

Dolly Parton, Betty White, and Pascal Simba (if you’ve never heard of him, do a YouTube search!).
