Girls on the Run: Instilling the Confidence to Become Limitless

Sometimes, it seems that if you can run a mile, you can do anything. Girls on the Run of Magee- Womens Hospital, the charity partner for Ragnar Trail Appalachians-WV, helps girls find confidence through running.

Using dynamic interactive lessons and running games, girls in the program learn life skills and an appreciation of health and fitness. Their mission is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.”
At Ragnar Trail Appalachians, a group of SoleMates are running to raise money for the organization. Nearly 50% of the 1,400 girls in Western Pennsylvania request financial assistance to join the program. SoleMates run races to raise money and give the gift of running.

“As we break out of our comfort zones, we will keep in mind that we are doing this so that all girls can realize that they can accomplish ANYTHING they set their minds to,” they say.

At over 90 different sites throughout Western Pennsylvania, volunteer coaches work with the girls on helping them run further and faster while teaching them lifelong skills. Then, at the end of the season, the girls dawn their Girl on the Run T-shirt, pin on their #1 bib and run a 5K.
